promise number one
After the Serpent succeeded in deceiving Adam and Eve to sin, G-d promised He would send a descendant of Eve to one day defeat evil (Genesis 3:15, Genesis 49:8–12, Numbers 24:15–19).
promise number two
G-d promised Abraham to create a nation of his descendants, and to bless the entire earth through Abraham’s offspring (Genesis 12:3, Genesis 26:4, Genesis 28:14).
promise number three
G-d promised that a righteous descendant of King David would come to redeem the world; this descendent would be both human and divine, a king and a priest (2 Samuel 23:1–7, Jeremiah 23:5–6, Isaiah 9:1–7, Isaiah 11:1–10, Isaiah 42:1–9, Isaiah 49:5–9, Psalm 2, Psalm 45).
promise number four
G-d promised to establish a new covenant based on the intercession of a sinless mediator, dealing with sin once and for all (Jeremiah 31:31, 34).
promise number five
True to His promises, G-d sent Jesus the Messiah, who fulfilled the prophecies by giving His life on our behalf, to pay for our sins (Isaiah 53:5–6). Messiah then lived again, as promised (Psalm 110:1, 4; Isaiah 52:13, Isaiah 53:11–12, Psalm 16:10, Psalm 21:1–7). Finally, G-d promises that Jesus the Messiah will return again to be welcomed by His people, Israel (Zechariah 12:10) and to reign forever (Daniel 7:14, Isaiah 9:7).
How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!
(Psalm 2:12)

OUR HOPE HAS COME
What’s the big deal with Isaiah 53? Why is this section of the Tanakh called the “forbidden chapter” by some? This chapter contains a vital message from G-d through the prophet Isaiah. We encourage all Jewish seekers to read this passage and consider its implications. To help you, we’ve provided a collection of articles as an introduction to this important, oft-neglected part of G-d’s message to His people. Don’t miss Isaiah’s message!
true shalom is possible
STORIES OF SHALOM
WHAT MY RABBI TOLD ME
Raised in a religious Jewish home, as a young man Dan declared, “I will never believe in Jesus!” Decades later, Dan explains why believing in Jesus is the most important thing a Jewish person can do.
WHAT IS JESUS DOING IN MY BIBLE?
From an early age, Israel was taught that Jesus is for the Gentiles. One day, after reading Isaiah 53, he wondered, “What is Jesus doing in my bible?” When Israel read the New Testament, he found it to be a profoundly Jewish book.
THE MOST JEWISH BOOK EVER
Bernard was shaped by stories of his family’s experience in the Holocaust. Though he didn’t take the Tanakh seriously, he was haunted by questions about the afterlife. Then a lecture on Jesus’ teachings transformed his life.
THERE IS ACTUALLY HOPE
Serving in Vietnam, Sam witnessed the horrors of war. His rabbi’s explanations of evil weren’t enough. One day Sam met some people who said Jesus was Jewish. Sam decided to attend their Bible study so he could laugh at them, but G-d had something else in mind.
PEACE FOR ALL HUMANITY
Early on, Rich decided Jesus could not be the Messiah, since there was no peace on earth. But he also realized humans couldn’t bring about any real change. Rich’s search for peace led him to Isaiah 53.
WHO IS REALLY WORTHY
“You can’t go to heaven because you’re Jewish,” Jennifer’s Catholic neighbors had told her. As an adult, despite a fun career of international travel with celebrities and musicians, she felt empty. She began to search for a new way of looking at life.
